Every monsoon, we get the same call. A homeowner in Narsingi or Kondapur or Madhurawada moved into their new flat a year or two ago, loved the uPVC windows the builder installed — and now, with the first heavy rain and the mosquitoes it drags in, is asking the same question:
"Can we add mosquito mesh to these? Or do we have to replace the whole window?"
The good news: in most cases, yes, you can add a mesh sash to your existing uPVC sliding windows and doors — and it's one of the cheapest, highest-impact upgrades you'll ever make to your home. The uncomfortable part: your builder almost certainly could have included it originally, and chose not to.
Here's the honest guide.
Why so many uPVC windows in Hyderabad come without mesh
When builders spec uPVC sliding windows for an apartment project, they typically choose a 2.5-track or 3-track profile. The extra track exists precisely to hold a mesh sash. But that mesh sash — the frame, the mesh material, the rollers, the handle — costs extra per window. On a 200-flat project, skipping it saves several lakhs, which either improves the margin or lets the builder advertise a slightly lower per-sq.ft price.
The window still gets sold as "3-track uPVC" in the brochure. What's missing is the third sash that makes the third track useful. You inherited a window designed for mesh, without the mesh. We see this constantly in the newer gated communities coming up around Kokapet, Narsingi, and the Financial District — premium towers, good uPVC profiles, empty mesh tracks.
The fix is straightforward. If your track allows it, we can fabricate and slot in the missing sash — no dismantling of the existing window, no wall work, no repainting.
What the retrofit actually costs
Prices vary with window size and mesh material. Ballpark, per opening:
| Window / door type | Approx. mesh sash cost (installed) |
|---|---|
| Standard bedroom sliding window (4×4 ft) | ₹1,500 – ₹2,800 |
| Large living room slider (6×5 ft) | ₹2,500 – ₹4,200 |
| Sliding balcony door (7×7 ft) | ₹4,500 – ₹7,500 |
| Kitchen window (3×3 ft) | ₹1,200 – ₹2,000 |
*Starting prices. Final cost depends on mesh material, sash size and site conditions. Includes fabrication, hardware, and installation.
For most 2BHK and 3BHK homes, meshing every window and balcony door lands somewhere between ₹15,000 and ₹35,000 total — a fraction of what people spend on the curtains that currently substitute for keeping mosquitoes out.
But first — will it actually fit your window?
This is the honest part most fabricators skip. Not every uPVC window can take a retrofit mesh sash. Before we quote, we check three things:
- Track count. A true 2-track window is already using both tracks for glass sashes — there's nowhere for the mesh to run. In that case, mesh is only possible as a fixed clip-on frame, which is a different (and less convenient) product.
- Track condition and clearance. On 2.5-track and 3-track windows, we verify the mesh track is clean, undamaged, and dimensionally within tolerance for a new sash to slide freely.
- Profile brand and section. Different uPVC profile systems (Prominance, Aparna, Fenesta, Deceuninck, and others) have subtly different section geometries. We match the sash to your existing profile so it looks and slides like it was always meant to be there.
We do this feasibility check as a free home visit. If your window can't accept a retrofit mesh, we tell you — and suggest the fixed-frame alternative — rather than force-fit something that will jam within a season.
Nylon vs aluminium vs stainless steel: which mesh material is right for you?
There's no single "best" answer here — it depends on where you live, what's on the other side of the window, and how long you want the mesh to last. Here's the honest comparison:
Fibreglass / nylon mesh — the default choice for most homes
The most common and most affordable option. Soft, flexible, and effective against mosquitoes, flies, and most common insects.
- Best for: Bedrooms, living rooms, and any window without unusual stress on the mesh
- Life: 5–8 years typically, before UV and dust take a toll
- Downside: Can be pushed through or torn by pets, and sags slightly over time
- Price tier: Most affordable
Aluminium mesh — the balanced upgrade
Woven aluminium wire with a protective coating. Holds its shape better, resists tearing, and lasts noticeably longer.
- Best for: Kitchens (where oil and heat degrade nylon faster), homes with cats, and windows facing dusty roads
- Life: 10–15 years
- Downside: Slightly reduced airflow and visibility compared to nylon; costs about 40–60% more
- Price tier: Mid-range
Stainless steel mesh — the coastal and pet-owner premium
The strongest and longest-lasting option. Marine-grade SS304 or SS316 wire, essentially rip-proof and corrosion-resistant.
- Best for: Vizag and other coastal homes where salt air destroys aluminium, families with large dogs or cats that lean against mesh, ground-floor windows where security is a concern
- Life: 20+ years
- Downside: Roughly 2–3× the cost of nylon; slightly heavier sash operation
- Price tier: Premium
Our default recommendation: nylon for most upstairs bedrooms, aluminium for kitchens and dusty-facing windows, stainless steel for coastal Vizag homes and any household with pets.

What actually changes in your home once mesh is added
This is the part homeowners underestimate until they've lived with it.
You start opening the windows again. Right now, most people in mosquito-affected floors keep windows shut through the entire monsoon and evenings after. Cross-ventilation collapses, AC bills climb, and the flat feels stuffy. A mesh sash restores the option to actually use the window the way it was designed.
Dengue and chikungunya risk drops meaningfully. Aedes mosquitoes bite mostly during the day, and enter through windows and doors left open for airflow. If your tower overlooks one of west Hyderabad's lakes or the green stretches around Narsingi and Gandipet — the very views these flats are sold on — you already know the evening mosquito situation. A mesh sash is the cheapest structural intervention against day-biting mosquitoes short of a fumigator on retainer.
Your kitchen stops attracting flies. Standard nylon or aluminium mesh keeps out houseflies during cooking hours — a bigger quality-of-life shift than most people expect.
Sleep improves. Windows that open at night without a mosquito coil under the bed is a small luxury with an outsized effect.
The process, start to finish
Day 0 — WhatsApp us a photo of your window's existing tracks and a rough count of the windows and doors you want meshed.
Day 1–2 — Our team visits (free of charge) to confirm which windows can take a retrofit sash, discuss mesh material choices room by room, and share a fixed, itemised quote.
Day 5–10 — On confirmation, we fabricate the sashes in our workshop.
Day 10–12 — Our installers fit the sashes on-site. Typically one visit, 2–4 hours for a full apartment, no wall work or repainting required.

Mesh retrofits, answered
In most cases yes — if your window has a 2.5-track or 3-track profile with an unused mesh track. We check feasibility with a free home visit before quoting, because true 2-track windows can only take a fixed clip-on mesh instead of a sliding mesh sash.
Retrofit mesh sashes start around ₹1,500 for small kitchen windows and go up to ₹7,500 for large balcony sliders. Most 2BHK and 3BHK homes fall between ₹15,000 and ₹35,000 total for all windows.
Nylon is the affordable default for bedrooms and living rooms. Aluminium is worth the upgrade for kitchens and dusty-facing windows. Stainless steel is the right choice for coastal homes in Vizag and households with pets. A mix across rooms is usually the smartest spend.
No. If your track allows it, we fabricate and slide in only the missing mesh sash — no dismantling, no wall work, no repainting.
Not always. We fabricate for a range of profile systems and confirm compatibility with your existing profile during the free home visit. If a retrofit sliding sash isn't possible, we'll recommend a fixed clip-on mesh alternative honestly.
Nylon typically 5–8 years, aluminium 10–15 years, and stainless steel 20+ years. UV exposure, salt air, and pets are the main factors that shorten life.
